University of Cambridge
Centre for International Studies

www.instudies.cam.ac.uk

The Centre was founded in 1967 by the international lawyer Clive Parry and by Sir Harry Hinsley, author of ‘Power and the Pursuit of Peace’ and a member of the Bletchley Park team that broke the German Enigma code in WWII. We continue their traditions of interdisciplinarity and of linking theory to practice.

The Centre has 77 full-time and 40 part-time Masters students, together with over 100 PhD students. We publish the Crises in World Politics series in association with Hurst and administer a number of major research programmes, including the Carnegie funded project in Conflict Resolution, and aspects of the EU-CONSENT network on the changing nature of an enlarged European Union.

We are increasingly moving closer to the Department of Politics with whom we intend to expand the study of international relations at Cambridge in the coming years.

MPhil in International Relations

The MPhil in International Relations (IR) is designed to meet the needs of all those who wish to enhance their understanding of IR at a graduate level. This means both those who intend to embark upon an academic career and those who wish to become (or continue as) practitioners. The course seeks to provide participants with a critical understanding of the international system in all its complexity, and of the means and methods that have been devised to study and understand it better.

MSt in International Relations

This course is taught and administered by the Centre of International Studies and the Institute of Continuing Education. Covering contemporary and historical perspectives on International Relations, the MSt is comparable to, and derived from, the full-time MPhil in International Relations but taken part-time over two years instead of full-time for one. The MSt will appeal both to recent graduates and to those already pursuing a career. For those candidates looking ahead to further graduate research, the MSt in International Relations offers a valuable starting point, and will make it possible to gauge accurately a candiate's suitability for further research.

PhD Research Degrees
