The Robert Schuman Foundation, created in 1991 after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the break-up of the USSR, was approved by the state in 1992 and provided itself with the task of bringing real aid to the new liberated countries of Eastern Europe and taking part in the further construction of Europe. The Foundation aims to keep the spirit and inspiration of the “Father of Europe”, Robert Schuman, alive. It has contributed significantly to consolidating the Franco-German partnership. Its assignments soon extended to undertaking research on and providing information about the European Union. Its independence allows it to take up a privileged position amongst similar organisations and to develop excellent relations with the major players, both French and European, in the public arena.
The Foundation has increased its initiatives to take the European democratic model forwards. It works alongside and establishes privileged links with new members, future candidates and “new neighbours” of the European Union.
The Robert Schuman Foundation is a French think-tank on Europe. Researchers are selected for their special abilities on specific subjects. Regularly it requests the services of experts acknowledged in their domain and publishes their work.
The Foundation works closely with representatives from the French and European authorities. Many personalities, notably French and European MP's, are involved in the Foundation's programmes and take part in it.
