With regained independence, Estonia has once again entered the orbit of international relations, and today the word Estonia evokes internationally a positive response. This, however, is just a starting point – our membership in the European Union, NATO, and a variety of international organizations requires dozens and dozens of smart young people versed in world matters, with a clear vision of international relations and international law, with the knowledge of several foreign languages as well as diplomatic protocol and etiquette.
The Faculty of International Relations provides a broad education in the field, conforming to the international standard, which is evidenced by the positive evaluation of the Bachelor programme by a board of foreign experts.
The faculty staff are lecturers and specialists in practical issues, recognized at home and abroad. The Faculty participates in the publishing of the "Baltic Horizons", a journal circulated internationally, and hosts international summer schools for university students.
In the faculty curricula, emphasis is laid on processes underlying the present-day Europe: the tendencies in the EU institutional, political, economic and social development, including foreign policy and security. The students acquire skills necessary for interpreting different approaches and facts; they learn to critically analyze the essence of international co-operation and international conflicts, the impact of globalization on countries and societies, to comprehend world problems such as global changes, regionalization, poverty, migration, terrorism, security, the spread of weapons of mass destruction, and others.
The Bachelor and Master programmes aim at providing basic knowledge in the sphere of political theories, foreign policy, diplomacy, international economy and law, also in sociology, philosophy, etc. The student shapes an analytical systemic approach to issues of international relations.
Graduates are qualified to work in various capacities in the international relations area – in the institutions of Estonia and the EU, at enterprises oriented towards international market, and in international bodies.
We are planning to launch studies for English-speaking students.
