The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) at the European University Institute (EUI), directed by Stefano Bartolini from September 2006, was set up in 1992 as a complementary initiative to develop inter-disciplinary and comparative research and to promote work on the major issues facing the process of integration and European society. Its main objectives are:
- To produce high quality research
- To collaborate with centres of research excellence
- To provide opportunities for young scholars working in our core areas
- To promote dialogue with the world of practice
The Centre hosts research programmes and projects, and a range of working groups and ad hoc initiatives. The research agenda is organised around a set of core themes and is continuously evolving, reflecting the changing agenda of European integration and the expanding membership of the European Union. The annual European Forum brings together scholars from the EUI and fellows from other research institutions to discuss a specific issue of current importance. The Centre is home to a large post-doctoral programme including Jean Monnet and Marie Curie fellowships as well as other publicly and privately funded fellowships.
