What Are the Keys to Culturally Diverse Societies?
07/07/2009
Organiser :
European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed - Spain)
Lecture
Series of lectures on immigration. “Debates on Immigration Today”
Recent migration movements place us in a moment when the speed and intensity of migration processes experienced over the last few years oblige us to evaluate and consider their main effects at the level of population dynamics, with special influence on the labour market, culture and language and also on policies linked to the provisions of the welfare state.
Moreover, the immigration of today in Catalonia cannot be understood outside this global dimension of human movements being brought about at present. Analysis is proposed of the main lines of debate on migrations at a global level in order to identify the current situation in Catalonia, both to analyse the recent arrival of immigrants and to obtain an insight into the mid- and long-term evolution.
The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), from its vocation to act as a permanent observatory of Mediterranean migrations and based on the experience acquired as a centre of studies of human movements, offers this series of lectures, organised within the framework of the exhibition “Immigration, Here and Now”, with the aim of contributing a general, comparative, European and Mediterranean vision to the debate on immigration in our country.
