CONNECTION
A global platform for meeting chemical business actors
EPCA, the European Petrochemical Association, is a leading Brussels-based international non-profit association dedicated to the global petrochemical business community.
In its 40 years of existence, the EPCA Annual Meeting of representatives of the more than 500 international EPCA member companies has become the foremost platform for meeting for the petrochemical business community and its many supplying industries.
EPCA stimulates out-of-the-box thinking in the highly successful petrochemical sector and widens its perspectives through lively and controversial debates on topics of interest to its members. EPCA members organise their “business to business” meetings at the EPCA meeting venues. These are attractive, accessible and safe European cities where all key players in the petrochemical business can be met. Top class meeting facilities are available at the meeting venues and also in the EPCA headquarters in Brussels.
EPCA unites the petrochemical industry and its supplying industries on a global scale:
- Producers of petrochemicals in Europe
- Producers of petrochemicals outside Europe and major service groups which can contribute to the achievement of the objectives of EPCA.
- Logistics service providers such as:
- Transport and storage companies
- Traders
- Distributors
- Freight forwarders
- Port authorities
- Engineering and construction companies
- Inspection companies
- Consulting firms active in the petrochemical business.
- Transport service providers such as:
- Ship owners
- Shipbrokers
- Road transport companies
- Rail transport companies
- Multi-modal logistics transport companies
- Terminal operators and tank cleaning companies active in chemicals, gases, petroleum products, liquids, ADR and packed goods.
An updated list of members can be found on our website www.epca.be
Given its large and global membership base, EPCA has never set out to be a lobbying organisation. EPCA does not have any federations or associations in its membership, but co-ordinates its activities with Cefic (European Chemical Industry Council) and other industry-driven associations like NPRA (National Petrochemical & Refiners Association), APLA (Assocación Petroquimica et Quimica Latinoamericana) and APIC (Asian Petrochemical Industry Conference). EPCA has formed and supports the activities of the European Chemical Transport Association (ECTA) representing more than 75% of European chemical road capacity.
REFLECTION
Think tanks and forum for dialogue; Centre for Supply Chain Expertise
The European chemical industry is a global leader. EPCA initiates, facilitates and promotes ideas and projects that support the continued leadership of the European chemical industry for the future via seminars, scholarships, round table sessions, working groups and think tanks where specific subjects of interest to the industry are debated, analysed and promoted. These platforms are open to members and non-members and may be cross-sectoral and shared with service providers.
In this way, EPCA members can:
- engage in dialogue with the most important partners in petrochemicals and with top speakers of global renown
- have the opportunity to raise particular issues affecting the petrochemical business, or to see them discussed by key people who can contribute to positive change
- update themselves on new trends and developments in the business community, including logistics and supply chain management.
Underlying the further development of sustainable global leadership by the European chemical industry, EPCA advocates a mentality shift in the organisation of supply chain management towards smoother cooperation between producers, service providers, the different transport modes and closer alignment with logistic service providers (LSPs) of the industry.
Focused on its “leitmotiv” of sector-wide cooperative efforts, EPCA organises projects selected by the Board, with the support of the membership. ECTA (The European Chemical Transport Association) is such a project and has enabled the chemical transport industry to formulate with Cefic and representatives of the chemical shippers “Best Practices in Chemical Logistics” (see: www.ecta.be).
Other projects destined to stimulate research are the scholarships organized in co-operation with the best universities; learning institutes and think tanks, mainly on supply chain management.
Recent studies performed by academics, consultancy firms and representatives of the chemical business include the following publications:
- Maximising Performance. The power of supply chain collaboration (2005) (in co-operation with Cefic)
- Supply Chain Excellence Report (2004) (in co-operation with Cefic)
- Supply Chain Logistics in the Bulk chemical Industry (2002)
- Rail Benchmark Study (2001)
