The relation between economic goals and social ambitions has always been much-disputed within the European cooperation. Not least in times of economic crisis, member states ability to combine the demands of the internal market with a social policy in the interest of the citizens.

Against this background, SIEPS is organizing a two-day conference on the social dimension of the EU and the challenges the Union is facing today. The conference will bring together academics from several European countries and disciplines, ensuring a wide perspective of the topic and presenting a useful foundation for discussion.
