It will take place on Tuesday October 27th between 15h00 and 17h00 at the premises of BICCS. The programme will be as follows: 15h00: Welcome 15h05: Presentation by Ding Chun 15h30: Presentation by Grayson Clarke 15h55: Discussion 17h00: End of meeting The conference will explore some of the key questions surrounding the reform of China’s social security system. The advent of economic crisis appears to have pushed social security to the top of China’s policy agenda. However, despite the apparent commitment of Beijing, there are many questions that are unanswered as to how reform will be carried out, and what its results will be. The conference will explore the development of China’s social security system, looking at the reasons for the current importance it is given in light of the economic crisis. Until now the social security system has been weak and fragmented. The conference will discuss the development of institutions to undertake reform, and the models and impact of reform. Ding Chun is Deputy Director of Centre for European Studies of the Fudan University. He is one of China’s leading scholars on social security and has carried out comprehensive comparative research on this topic. Grayson Clarke is a member of the EUChina Social Security Reform Cooperation Project. He lectures on social security economics, under the special focus on European social policies and welfare systems to graduate students.
