The Case for a Climate Change Law with Liz McManus TD

About the Speech:
Liz McManus will present an overview of the Houses of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security’s latest report entitled ‘The Case for Climate Change Legislation’. The report argues the need for legally binding targets in Ireland, and provides a review of climate change legislation implemented in other jurisdictions. The report stresses the importance of a long-term cross-generational approach to legislation that informs all government departments, in order to ensure that Ireland is at the forefront of global efforts to mitigate the worst effects of climate change.

Deputy Liz McManus T.D. was rapporteur for the Houses of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security’s latest report . Liz McManus, T.D. for Wicklow, is the Labour Party Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. Elected to Dáil Éireann in 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2007, she served as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 2002 to 2007. Previous positions have included President of the Informal Council of Housing Ministers during the EU Irish Presidency, member of the Northern Ireland Forum for Peace & Reconciliation, and Minister of State for Housing & Urban Renewal.
