The Development Policy Forum (DPF) met on 28 June to examine the unparalleled success of the Fondation Vicente Ferrer’s (FVF) development project in India’s Anantapur region in the context of redoubled global efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Participants discussed the relevance and applicability of the model used in Anantapur to the wider context of development methodology.

Stefano Manservisi, European Commission Director General for Development, praised the Anantapur model noting that, “We will never succeed in the fight against hunger, against HIV/AIDS, against maternal mortality, if we do not approach development and the MDGs in a comprehensive way.” Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, stressed the seriousness of the developed world in following up on its commitments to eradicating poverty. “If in September the heads of 193 governments cannot commit to put 0.7% of GDP in order to have resources to address the needs of so many millions of people in the world, the only reaction is for all of us to resign,” he stated.
