Biographies of Photographers
SONG HANGJIAN (China)
 
Song Hangjian is a photographer and documentary director. He graduated from the Photography department of the Beijing Film Academy, and has worked with CCTV-10 since 1996.

Song was the photographer on the digital film Flowers Blossom When Spring Comes, directed by Lu Fengcai.  He has also worked on a number of other documentaries and films, including Singer of Shanbei-Wang Xiangrong, Christopher Doly-Better Famous Guo Jingjing-Diving Winner, Beijing Olympic Games Emblem Gold Seal Collector’s Edition Release Advocacy Film, and Champion Kids.
 
SUBHASH SHARMA (India)
 
Subhash Sharma, is a freelance  photographer based in Mumbai, India. He contributes to various publications, specializing in human-interest and documentary photography. His photographs are regularly published in photographic journals, illustrative books and newspapers and magazines like II Venerdi, The Globe and Mail, Canada, Quebec Science, IEEE Spectrum, Courrier International, Hindustan Times and so on.

A mechanical engineer by qualification, he discovered photography at an early age. While he was studying for his M.B.A. degree, he realized that his creative self was not at all satisfied. He then left the course to give all his time to his love for photography, which is now his passion.

His first book titled Digital Glimpses Of India was widely received and appreciated. His next book The Land Of  The Holymen is  currently under print and explores the lifestyle of the Naga Sadhus (naked saints) of India.            

Subhash has received the following awards:
1st prize Indian Press Photo Award , sports feature story category (2008), 1st prize Humanity Photo Award, China , traditional sports category (2006), Merit award, Epson color imaging contest, Japan (2005),  2nd place in the United Nations WHO ICF International Photo Contest themed  Images of Health and Disability (2005).

DAMIEN SCHUMANN (South Africa)

Damien Schumann found an interest in photography almost by mistake while traveling through the Middle East and Asia between 2001 and 2003. In December 2003, Damien embarked on a journey to compile his first body of work. For this, he hitchhiked from Cape Town to Ramallah in Palestine to put a face to emerging Africa. The photographic exhibition, Balala, was exhibited widely in Cape Town on Damien’s return.

While studying at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in South Africa to study photographyhe started working with the Desmond Tutu Tuberculosis Centre and documented the lifestyle and living conditions surrounding TB and HIV in the townships of Cape Town and Lusaka, Zambia. This work was launched on World TB Day in 2006 as an art installation where a shack was recreated and used as an exhibition space for his pictures.

Since 2004 Damien work has been used by organizations such as the World Health Organization, Stop TB Partnership, UNAIDS, Desmond Tutu TB Centre, TB Care, Medicins Sans Frontieres, World Lung Foundation, Australian Government, AusAID and the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease.

SERGE GOLOVACH  (Russia)

Serge was born in 1970 in Birobijan, Russia, and he graduated from the local Art School in 1986. In 2001, he graduated from the Far East State Service Academy in Khabarovsk. He moved to Moscow in 2001.

Serge Golovach’s artistic methods are body art, performance, panoramic photography, photo-films, silk-screening, animation and podcasting.   Recently, his interest has been held by topics of human interest and great social relevance, such as living with HIV. 


Serge has participated in over 100 photo exhibitions and art projects. His photos form part of the following collections:
-    State Russian Museum, St-Petersburg
-    Far-East Art Museum, Khabarovsk
-    State Modern Art Centre, Moscow
-    Contemporary Art Centre, Vitebsk
-    Private Russian and foreign collections

Serge won the Nikon Photo Contest International (2000-2001) and is a member of the Russian Union of Artists, the International Federation of Journalists, the International Association 'Society of Designers', and the Russian Union of Photographers.
